Lewes Boat Building Program

This past Fathers Day, families converged on the Lewes Life-Saving Station Museum for an entire weekend to build boats, and test their skills, hoping for the best...and to stay afloat most importantly. At roughly 12ft long and holding about 4 passengers comfortably, these "Bevin Skiffs" as they are called, are all-around boats that are great for fishing and recreation. This design has been passed down over the years, and the organizers saw it quite fitting a vessel to replicate; a simple appealing design, that's easy to build. A prototype was built back in March to test the boat's design in preparation for the challenge. The boat building challenge took place over a 3-day weekend leading up to Fathers Day, when they all launched successfully. And to think, the boats they bobbed around in on Fathers Day were merely piles of lumber 3 days prior.
