4-wheel Robot Chassis Test

This is a four-wheeled robot chassis, rolling around at -30 deg F at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. This version uses only 50 watts or so, but still hops over curbs and rolls over piles of snow quite easily! We're trying out various motor and wheel arrangements for a solar-powered autonomous run across hundreds of kilometers of ice in Greenland. This particular run is powered at 24VDC via two lead-acid batteries, with a fairly stout black wheelchair-type motor driving the rear axle via a roller chain. The rear wheels are truck inner tubes on custom-built wooden rims, driven via two ATV hubs on an ATV axle. The whole assembly is mounted on a 2x4" lumber frame, slapped together in one afternoon. This is clearly not the final robot, but we've found that lumber and a pneumatic nailgun make it very easy to try things out until you find a setup that works well, which you can then build from decent materials.
