Entry from: La Spezia, Italy Entry Title: "Italy, we are ready to be impressed by you!" Entry: "We took an overnight train from Barcelona to Milan. We took the cheap option- reclining seats instead of sleeper cabin on the train. I don't remember sleeping well, but apparently I slept through a thorough sniff test from a French German Shepherd drug dog. We decided to skip Milan--mainly because the main attraction was the Last Supper painting, and reservations are needed months in advance and we don't plan more than 3 days in advance. We chose La Spezia because it was close to Cinque Terre, a series of 5 coastal villages with breath-taking views (and a "breath-taking" hike if you did the whole thing!) We found an apartment online, which we shared with two other couples (one bathroom!). It was very clean and had a kitchen, so the shared bathroom didn't bother us too much. It was called "La Tartaruga Doralice". We were there for 4 days, and 3 of the days it poured down rain. We were lucky that on the last day the sun came out so we headed to the Cinque Terre villages. We were not disappointed! There are hiking trails connecting all five villages, getting progressively harder as you go along. We did the first one, the second one was closed due to mudslides from the torrential rain, we hiked the third ...

Entry from: Port Campbell, Australia Entry Title: "Melbourne to Port Campbell" Entry: "Torquay-Melbourne now in the rearview and Torquay two hours down the road Kelly and I have managed to leave Melbourne with only 5 or 6 U turns and one heroic hook turn. The open road road ahead and several long black coffees in the belly I was amped to be moving again. Chit chatting about the road ahead and feeling the crave to do more coffee we decided to spend the night at the first campsite we found near Bells Beach. A place quickly secured we went to check out the world class break called Bells Beach. The view platform was empty except for a couple dressed in formal gear. The dude was looking nervous and our intereruption only fueled his awkwardness. Inappropriate comments whispered in Kelly's ear had her spewing from laughter only to add to the romance of the situation. After ruining the suits moment I decided to pay attention to the surf. Sadly to say the waves were small and the wind was onshore, but the view was still great because the waves and conditions could improve for tomorrow. Bells and the Great Ocean Road- The night was chilling. Autumn has come to the southlands of Australia. The tent was too cold to handle at about 3 am, so K Ching and I ended up crashing out on living room couches in the hostel ...

Entry from: Portland, United States Entry Title: "Portland's People Are Pretty Pleasant" Entry: "Day 21 -- Second Day in Portland, OR This morning we woke up in the hostel to the luring smell of pancakes. Bri took a jog through the neighborhood and declared it quite similar to Decatur. We started our laundry and then helped ourselves to the $1 all-you-can-eat pancakes and 50-cent coffees. After picking up some local papers from the lobby, we sat out on the porch and ate our breakfast. It was almost too cold! Things we did today: - Discovered that Bri turns into a little old lady when startled. Bri had gone up to use the restroom while Christen finished washing their dishes in the kitchen. When Christen came upstairs, she went to the first bathroom and turned the handle and..."Oh! Occupied!" yelled a little old lady in a British accent. Christen giggled to herself and went to the other bathroom, then made fun of Bri for the rest of the day. - Bri declared that she thought the door was locked, Christen should have knocked, and she didn't know that it was Christen. - Dropped Minnie off at Everett's Auto Works for an oil change. They were SO NICE. The guy behind the counter even gave us a map and circled things he thought we should see, neighborhoods we should walk through, and drew lines around an area ...
